Work Process

Pretty much all of my favourite things have some sort of inclination towards macabre topics. That’s the way its always been. And that is why is was very happy when the the organizer’s of Epitaphium asked me to design their logo and flyer for the upcoming gothic party they were hosting in Salzburg.

For the design of the logo I was given two sketches that I could work off of, one was inspired by a victorian era hearse and the other of a coffin. Sadly there was a time limitation since their first ever party was nearing and I could only finish one of the ideas. With some more talk of what they preferred, I started on the coffin version of the logo. Despite there being a rough sketch of what was wanted, as well as reference pictures I admittedly had a bit of trouble getting to the point were I was satisfied. Thankfully, after a lot of iteration, I found this point and could focus on the design of their flyers and social media templates.

The flyer gave me a bit more freedom to experiment. Since the name of the event evoked death, cemeteries and last words, the direction was pretty clear here as well. I choose to design a tombstone, thinking of death motifs all the while like lilies and skulls to add the necessary symbolism as well. With that everything was done and the evet drew closer.

There I also took some pictures for them (and swayed dejectedly to the music as you do).
