The idea behind this book came to me primarily from the desire to gather all my poems in one spot and to tie them all together in a way that’s satisfying narratively. Having them float around in my notes app, on loose paper or maybe an Instagram caption  is not ideal to say the least and I wanted to give them a better more suitable space to exist in this world.

With my intention set I had a new project at hand. I got to work trying to figure out the narrative threads first since this was the core of it all. To understand the story/world better I sectioned the narrative into three chapters, each describing a part in the downfall of a divine being. Then I looked at all my poetry and arranged them so they fit thematically into one of the chapters. This was the easier task compared to what still lay ahead of me at the time.

Now the design of my book should have been pretty straightforward. I wanted to encapsulate a sense of decay, looked towards nature, towards the story of the fall of paradise all for inspiration but the design at first didn’t resonate with me at all. It was somehow too safe and missed the otherworldly edge needed for the visuals. Luckily my second attempt fit and I stuck with it. The interior design of the book was my next challenge and I say challenge because it took me the longest to settle on a format. After a lot of trial and error regarding the visuals I decided on a mixture between photography and artwork to finally finish what I had started. Then the book was done. 

What I learned from this is that deciding on the visuals can be extremely tricky. It’s good to start with a mood/vision board to focus in on certain elements early on. This would work around a lot of potential confusion later in the project. Usually that is the approach I take (thank you Pinterest), but somehow here I didn’t think it was necessary. However all in all I am very satisfied with the project and am grateful for everything it taught me
